ESL Program: Academic English
Overview

LCI’s Academic English ESL program focuses on academic preparation for undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs. Our students can continue their studies at any university in the United States. The Academic English ESL Program courses have five levels from beginner to advanced and include TOEFL preparation. The English for Academic Purposes program (AEP) at LCI is an intensive English Program with college-level English objectives.
LCI has university partnerships and TOEFL waiver programs with the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Regis University, Community Colleges of Spokane, Colorado State University Pueblo College of Business, Mesa State College, Western State College, Westwood College and Redstone College. For each of these schools, LCI has a TOEFL waiver for Level 5 students and can do conditional admission for LCI students.
The AEP program is a full time language program with 24 hours of instruction per week given in five terms of nine to ten weeks over one year. Students enrolling in the AEP program have an English language assessment to ensure placement in the appropriate level. Students can then progress through the levels until they are ready for university studies.
Each part of the program focuses on developing the students’ effective communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing at the level needed for success at an English-speaking university.
The AEP program prepares students for entry into the university or college of their choice or purely to learn English in a rigorous and challenging manner. Language instruction includes all the language skills with a strong emphasis on written work. Each aspect of the communication needed for university or college work is studied in LCI’s English for academic purposes.
A cultural component to assist students in their awareness and adaptation to life in the U.S.A. is part of all language programs at LCI.
