What is IELTS?
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an English language proficiency test used by universities to determine a prospective student’s fluency. Universities use IELTS to decide whether you are capable of attending a college or graduate program in English.
Students must choose either the Academic IELTS test or the General Training IELTS test when registering for the exam. The Academic IELTS test is used by universities and is intended to test a student’s ability to understand and use complex academic language. The General Training IELTS test is used by other institutions, such as colleges and high schools, for courses that require less-complex language skills
In the past, IELTS has been used by universities in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. However, according to IELTS, the number of education institutions, professional organizations and accrediting bodies in the U.S.A. accepting IELTS has risen to over 1,800.
